Texas Democrat Bobby Pulido focuses on grocery store affordability in his campaign despite

In a 2010 interview, Latin Grammy Award-winning artist Bobby Pulido mentioned that since rising to fame, he hasn’t really done his own shopping. He jokingly expressed that he rarely visits supermarkets anymore, unlike when he was in college.

In a profile from El Norte Magazine, it was noted that he used to occasionally shop. However, his busy schedule as a musician has taken precedence. “I don’t have time,” he remarked, emphasizing how his career has affected his personal life.

Currently, Pulido is trying to position himself as the Democratic candidate for Texas’s highly contested congressional district. This comes amid a broader Democratic push focusing on affordability issues ahead of the midterm elections in 2026, especially as inflation and rising gas prices have led many to criticize President Trump’s handling of the economy.

Notably, Pulido is recognized for his contributions to Tejano music, with hits like “Desverado” and “Se Murio de Amor.” He’s been nominated for five Latin Grammy Awards, winning for Best Tejano Album in the recent years.

Despite facing some controversies in his past, Pulido is trying to turn his campaign into a referendum on economic issues that he believes his administration has overlooked. His campaign insists that the real economy is personal, affecting everyday expenses like groceries and rent.

He articulated how inflation disproportionately impacts his district, claiming they feel it more severely than wealthier areas. “In the Rio Grande Valley, inflation feels like the flu,” he expressed. This sentiment has been shared in his podcasts.

Pulido aims to unseat incumbent Representative Monica de la Cruz. The political landscape is particularly competitive as redistricting may lead to significant changes, with several Democrats expected to lose their seats.

Dela Cruz, who has been in office for two terms, won her last election decisively. Pulido recently triumphed in the Democratic primary and is set to challenge her in November 3.

Efforts for outreach from the Pulido campaign have been noted, but no response has been reported as of yet.
