Mr. Abbott (R-Texas)'s announcement follows President Joe Biden's directive to fly the American flag at half-staff for “30 days” to mourn the death of former President Jimmy Carter, which coincidentally falls on the same day. It coincided with President Trump's inauguration on January 20th.th.

“Inauguration Day is a day of celebration for America. Today, I ordered the flags to be flown at the Texas Capitol and statehouses in preparation for President Trump's inauguration,” Abbott wrote on XPost. .

“While we honor President Carter's legacy, we also celebrate the president-elect and our bright future,” he added.

Former President Carter passed away on December 29th.th At his Georgia mansion, Biden declared that “the flag of the United States should be flown at half-mast at the White House, on all public buildings and grounds, on all military garrisons and naval bases, and on all naval vessels of the United States.” I let it happen. Applies to the federal government and its territories and possessions in the District of Columbia and throughout the United States for a period of 30 days from the date of his death. ”

Biden's federal order marks the first time that the American flag will be flown at half-staff on Inauguration Day, drawing criticism from President Trump.

“Democrats are all 'blindsided' about the possibility of the grand American flag being flown at half-staff at my inauguration,” Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social. “They think it's a great thing and they're very happy, because in reality they don't love our country and only think about themselves.”

“Look at what they've done to our once great America for the past four years. An utter mess!” In any case, with the passing of President Jimmy Carter, the flag will be displayed for the first time at a future president's inauguration. Flags may be at half-mast. No one wants to see this, and no American will be happy about this. Let's see how it goes. Let's make America great again! ” Trump added.

In response, Presidential Press Secretary Jean-Pierre, when asked if President Biden would reconsider flying the flag at half-staff on Inauguration Day, flatly answered “no.”
