Republican Texas Gov. Greg Abbott sent a stern message to sanctuary cities on Monday, vowing that the state’s transportation of migrants to the region will continue until the federal government takes action on the worsening border crisis.
“Texas has transported more than 102,000 migrants to sanctuary cities. Overwhelmed border towns in Texas should not bear the brunt of Biden’s open borders policy. Until Biden secures the border, we will… ‘s transport mission continues,” Abbott wrote in a post to X.
Mr. Abbott’s pledge comes amid a feud with the Biden administration over border enforcement and whether he has the authority to protect Texas from a wave of migrants that overwhelms law enforcement and immigration officials.

The two sides have been at odds since 2021, when the immigration crisis intensified and Texas launched Operation Lone Star to focus resources on the border.
The administration recently filed a lawsuit over the Anti-Illegal Immigration Act, which allows state and local law enforcement to arrest illegal immigrants. The state is also suing over the placement of buoys in the Rio Grande. The administration says immigration enforcement is left to the federal government and Texas is intervening.
The Supreme Court last week issued an emergency appeal temporarily reversing a lower court’s injunction barring the federal government from cutting the razor-edge fence that Texas installed along the border near Eagle Pass while the case continues. The trial court issued a 5-4 decision.
