Texas Man Sentenced for Murder Over Repair Bill
A Texas man has been sentenced to 40 years in prison for killing a mechanic due to a $500 repair bill. The victim, Luis Manuel Casillas, was shot in the head just days before Christmas in 2022.
Laudel Orozco, 25, showed intense anger upon learning his sentence. His crime was described as an execution, and he pleaded guilty to felony murder. His brother, Rolando, also faces murder charges and is expected in court on May 26 for a pretrial hearing.
The fatal incident occurred on December 23, 2022, near West Little York Road and the North Freeway. Reports indicate that Orozco, along with his brother and four others, went to the auto shop but refused to pay for the truck repairs.
During a heated exchange, Casillas tried to make the group leave by asking them to get into their truck. As tensions rose, witnesses claim Casillas attempted to flee but was pursued and ultimately shot at close range.
Casillas’ sister, Sandy, recounted that her brother pleaded for his life, telling the group, “I have a family. Please take whatever I want.” Unfortunately, his pleas were ignored, and he was shot.
Sandy described her brother as a dedicated family man, noting that he was a father, son, and brother who did not deserve such a fate. He left behind a wife and two young daughters, ages 2 and 3.
After the incident, Sandy shared the heartbreak of their family, stating, “Santa was supposed to come with my dad, but Santa showed up and my dad didn’t.” Just a couple of days later, the victim’s family gathered at the crime scene on Christmas Day, calling for justice.
In court, Orozco coldly warned Casillas’ family, “One day you’ll be out,” which added to the chilling atmosphere of the trial.
Orozco’s lawyer suggested that the dispute arose from a misunderstanding concerning a stolen truck and argued that the shooting was unintentional. The defense claimed Orozco feels remorseful about the crime. Meanwhile, a third suspect, Jodi Duron, had murder charges against him dropped in September 2024 due to insufficient evidence.
