FBI Arrests Man Who Claimed Hate Crime Victimization in Texas
The FBI in Houston has recently taken action against a man who, ironically, described himself as a victim of a hate crime. Mario Roberson, from Huntsville, Texas, was arrested Thursday morning in connection with a June 2023 home explosion in San Jacinto County. The charges he faces carry a potential life sentence.
Roberson had initially been charged with arson in November 2023, and he was taken into custody at the Harris County Jail in December of that year. It remains unclear why he was released at that time.
According to Roberson and his legal team, the Homeowners Association targeted him following the fire, asserting that the incident was indeed a hate crime. He claims that racist graffiti was spray-painted on his property, and he almost faced gunfire in his neighborhood a few weeks back. In an interview, Roberson shared images of the graffiti with ABC13, which included a racial slur displayed on the door next to his home.
Interestingly, law enforcement received information from survivors who witnessed lawmakers veering off the road after the fire incident. They expressed concerns about “numbers work at home,” hinting at potential insurance fraud or financial exploitation. One individual supposedly indicated that someone, he knew, might be involved in that aspect.
After a thorough month-long investigation led by the Texas Fire Department, a judge approved a “true bill,” allowing for Roberson to be officially charged with first-degree arson.
FBI Houston has yet to comment on the matter when approached for insights.
