A Texas mother is facing charges after she was found lying outside with her two young children in subfreezing temperatures.
According to the Harris County Sheriff's Office, around 6:40 a.m. Tuesday, deputies responded to a 911 call about a woman who was outside with her children at 12062 Veterans Memorial Drive in Houston.
The caller reported that the three people were lying on the sidewalk during what forecasters described as historic snowfall in the area.
When officers arrived, they found a woman and her 1-year-old and 2-month-old children. Both infants suffered from cold-related injuries and were immediately rescued, the sheriff's office said.

Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said the mother showed signs of intoxication and has been charged with child endangerment resulting in death.
Local news outlets also reported that the woman was said to have been napping on the ground, and an open alcoholic drink was found nearby. The temperature in Houston early Tuesday morning was 28 degrees and there was snow on the ground.

Much of the Houston area has reported 2 to 4 inches of snow since Monday night, with some areas reporting as much as 5 inches.
Temperatures are expected to remain below freezing, and roads will remain icy and dangerous.
