A mother and father were arrested Monday morning in Smith County, Texas, for allegedly hiding fentanyl pills in their infant’s diaper.
Dredarian Estelle, 27, and Jada Speight, 22, are both charged with abandonment or endangerment of a child creating imminent danger, manufacture or delivery of a controlled substance between 4 grams and 200 grams, between 4 ounces and 5 ounces. He is charged with possession of marijuana in Pounds. CBS19 report.
According to the Smith County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy pulled the couple over for a traffic stop near a 7-Eleven with their 6-month-old son in the back seat. During the traffic stop, the deputy smelled marijuana and conducted a search of the vehicle, according to the report.

“Knowing that drugs are often smuggled into babies’ clothing, the deputy removed the baby’s diaper and discovered an orange plastic bottle containing blue pills. “We believed this to be a pressed fentanyl pill,” the report states. .
Esther reportedly told law enforcement that she put drugs in the baby’s diaper. Deputies also found marijuana inside the vehicle, according to the report.
Smith County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Sergeant Larry Christian told KLTV that deputies are 99% sure the pills contain fentanyl, but the pills will be sent to a lab for testing. Ta. He noted that fentanyl hidden in the child’s diaper could have caused the fatal accident.
“I cannot express enough how irresponsible and dangerous it is to do something like that,” Christian said.
Esther and Speight were each booked into the Smith County Jail on $105,000 bail. Christian said the baby was released to Child Protective Services (CPS).
