The battle over Tiger Woods' prescription medication records intensifies following his DUI arrest

Tiger Woods’ lawyers have pushed back against a subpoena from Florida prosecutors that seeks his medication records following his arrest for driving under the influence on Jupiter Island on March 27. As noted by USA Today, the golf superstar has pleaded not guilty in this case.

On April 7, prosecutors informed the court of their intention to request Woods’ medication records dating back to January 1.

Woods’ attorney, Douglas Duncan, stated, “The defense opposes the issuance of a subpoena and is asking the court to hold a hearing to determine whether the prescription records are relevant to a criminal investigation.” He also emphasized the need for a confidentiality order to prevent public access to the drug records, as reported.

The exact reasons for the request to access Woods’ prescription records were not disclosed by state prosecutors.

Woods, who did not submit to a urine test after his rollover crash, registered a zero on a breathalyzer. He informed the arresting officers that he had taken prescription medications earlier that day.

According to the arrest affidavit released by the Martin County Sheriff’s Office, the specific names of the drugs were redacted.

Martin County Sheriff John Budensiek commented, “We will never know conclusively what he was impaired at at the time of the accident.”

During the search of Woods’ person, officers found two hydrocodone pills in his pocket.

In a police affidavit, Deputy Tatiana Revenner noted that Woods appeared to be “sweating profusely” and was moving in a “lethargic and slow” manner. His eyes were described as “bloodshot and glassy,” with “extremely dilated” pupils.

The accident involved Woods’ Land Rover and a pressure washer truck towing a small trailer, according to Sheriff Budensiek.

Following the incident, Woods stated that he would be taking time off from golf to focus on his treatment.

A 15-time major champion, Woods had already been dealing with multiple injuries since 2024 but made his return during the TGL Finals last month.

He had undergone lumbar disc replacement surgery in October and surgery for a torn left Achilles tendon the previous March.

This DUI incident comes after Woods narrowly escaped losing his right leg in a car accident in February 2021.
