The 2026 Met Gala is just around the corner, happening in two months, and there’s already buzz about the outfits the stars will don at this prestigious event.

Today, Vogue offered a sneak peek with the announcement of a dress code: “Fashion is Art.”

The theme for this year’s exhibition, “Costume Art,” was revealed back in December and focuses on the relationship between clothing and the human form, aiming to explore how fashion has evolved over time alongside cultural influences.

The dress code is designed to frame the theme, encouraging interpretations that resonate with the concept.

According to Vogue, “The dress code invites participants to think about the various ways designers utilize the body as a canvas.”

This might be one of the most liberating and abstract dress codes we’ve seen. Curator Andrew Bolton noted, “What connects all of the museum’s curatorial departments and galleries is fashion: the dressed body.”

With such open-ended guidelines, those who love fashion will likely have plenty to anticipate when the red carpet rolls out.

Nicole Kidman, a regular at the Gala, will also co-chair this year’s festivities.

This time, Beyoncé is making a much-anticipated return to the event, her first appearance in a decade, and she’ll be one of the three co-chairs, alongside Kidman and Venus Williams.

Even though Anna Wintour has stepped down as editor-in-chief of American Vogue, she remains heavily involved, continuing her role as co-chair for the event.

The charity host committee, led by Anthony Vaccarello and Zoe Kravitz, features a group of 20 members, including Teyana Taylor, Sabrina Carpenter, Misty Copeland, and Lena Dunham.

Additionally, Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez Bezos are taking on the role of honorary chairs, having stepped up as major sponsors for the occasion.

The exhibition’s flexible theme and dress code coincide with the grand opening of the Condé M. Nast Gallery, which will debut with the Costume Institute exhibit in early May.

Attendees can expect to see around 400 sculptures and paintings showcased throughout this newly revealed space.

The Met Gala is set to take place at the Metropolitan Museum of Art on May 4th.
