Giants Hopeful with New Head Coach

The New York Giants are looking to their new head coach, Jim Harbaugh, to break a 15-year streak of not winning the NFC East. Recent moves suggest a positive start; notably, they honored Dexter Lawrence’s trade request on Saturday, sending him to Cincinnati along with the No. 10 pick from this year’s draft.

Last season was tough for the Giants, mainly due to injuries, but there were still bright moments. With a lineup featuring quarterback Jackson Dart, wide receiver Malik Nabors, running back Cam Skatebo, and tight end Theo Johnson, along with free agent tight end Isaiah Likely, there is real potential. Whether they hold onto their two first-round picks or bundle them for a stronger offensive player, the No. 5 pick could add a dynamic element to the team’s offense.

Since Saturday’s trade, speculation has increased about two top prospects from Ohio State potentially joining the team.

Sonny Styles (+200), Linebacker

Sonny Styles transitioned from safety to linebacker after joining Ohio State. He could be the crucial addition the Giants need for their pass-rushing defense. Leading the Buckeyes in tackles and serving as team captain last season, he displayed great athleticism and a knack for making plays. Known for his quick burst in closing spaces, he also excels in man coverage.

Standing at 6’5″ and weighing 244 pounds, Styles is larger than Kyle Hamilton, yet his performance at the combine matched or surpassed that of Harbaugh’s previous star safety with the Ravens. If selected as the Giants’ No. 5 pick, Styles might spend his rookie season learning under free agent Tremaine Edmunds before becoming a key defensive figure.

Caleb Downs (+260), Safety

Caleb Downs made his mark as a freshman at Alabama, later transferring to Ohio State, where he earned first-team All-American honors and won the Jim Thorpe Award as the top defensive back in the nation. With two interceptions in each of his three college seasons, he has been a formidable presence with significant contributions in tackles and pass breakups.

Coaches and teammates often commend his competitive spirit and leadership. Having been influenced by both his father and brother Josh, who plays wide receiver for the Colts, Downs could be a stabilizing force for a Giants secondary that has struggled since trading Xavier McKinney to the Packers in 2024.

Francis Mauigoa (+550)

Over his three years at Miami, Francis Mauigoa started in all 42 games as an offensive tackle, showcasing impressive footwork and stability akin to Penei Sewell. Questions about his long-term role—either as a tackle or guard—remain, but he possesses a solid foundation that would immediately aid Jackson Dart in maintaining his footing.

Jeremiah Love (+600)

As Notre Dame’s main running back, Jeremiah Love displayed the vision and power necessary to fill the shoes of former standout Saquon Barkley. He has the ability to burst through tackles and evade defenders in open spaces, presenting a significant offensive threat.

Jordan Tyson (+800)

Arizona State’s Jordan Tyson has seen his draft stock climb to +800 over the weekend. While he has all the necessary traits to potentially become the best receiver in this draft class, his college career has been hindered by injuries, raising concerns about his durability.

Colonel Tate (+950)

Tate is another promising wide receiver from Ohio State, known for his polished running and catching abilities. He consistently outpaces defenders with his speed and reliable hands. Despite Jordan Tyson’s recent rise in estimation, Tate has been regarded as a top wide receiver prospect as the draft approaches.
