As of the end of the 2025 season, there have been a remarkable 1,095 unique final scores recorded in NFL history. With teams scoring more frequently, the extra point now being a 33-yard kick, and the increasing trend of going for two-point conversions, the league continues to see novel game outcomes. This phenomenon of unique scores has been dubbed “Scorigami.”
Just one week into the 2026 NFL season, that number has already jumped to 1,097, as two additional unique scores were added.
Most of these Scorigami occurrences involve games where teams score over 40 points, reflecting high-scoring performances from both sides. Interestingly, there are also some scorelines in the 30s that have never been recorded before. And it’s not only about high scores—there’s never been a game that ended in a 2-2 tie. The league banned two-point conversions until 1994, and to date, an 8-7 score has never happened. Scores like 9-9 are also missing from the record books.
What to Expect for Scorigami in 2026
Since 1992, NFL seasons have consistently featured three or more Scorigami scores every year. On average, since the 2000 season, there are about seven such scores annually, with a high of 14 in 2013 and a low of three in both 2022 and 2009.
New Scorigami Games in 2026
The 2026 season kicked off with some excitement as two NFC North teams achieved unique scores during the opening weekend, marking the 1,096th and 1,097th distinct final scores in NFL history.
Bears Defeat Panthers 59-37 in Week 1
Typically, Scorigami happens due to some unusual events in the game. However, this time it was just the Bears delivering an impressive performance. Chicago racked up 14 points in the first, third, and fourth quarters, not to mention a hefty 17 points in the second quarter. While there was a late blocked extra point, the score of 59-38 itself also hasn’t occurred before.
Vikings Beat Packers 39-22 in Week 1
In this matchup, the Packers missed an extra point early on, but that alone didn’t lead to an unusual score. Everything seemed standard until the fourth quarter when the Vikings scored to take the lead, including a two-point conversion to push the score to 25-22—a bit of an odd score for an NFL game. Minnesota then added two traditional touchdowns, culminating in a rare 39-point result. Plus, the score of 32-22 has never been logged before either.
Potential Future Scorigami Scores in 2026
- 8-7: A late touchdown leads to a win instead of a tie.
- 9-9: A tie due to struggling offenses or a low-scoring game ending regulation in a tie.
- 18-8: Seems possible, right?
- 25-18: Achieving 18 points in various ways before a winning score.
- 32-22: One team plays catch-up while another maintains a lead.
- 41-41: With 40-40 not in existence, this would be the next numerical step.
- 42-25: A leading team extends their advantage to a three-possession game.
- 46-17: A rare score against a fairly common number.
- 47-40: A game where both teams score heavily.
- 50-0: The epitome of a shutout.
- 50-3: The lowest score against a common 3.
- 60-14: Again, the lowest against a frequent score of 14.
Recap of Scorigami Games in 2025
After a total of seven Scorigami in 2024, the following year saw four new unique scores come into play, including two from the high-offense Buffalo Bills. Here’s how these games unfolded:
Bills Beat Ravens 41-40 in Week 1
In this high-scoring affair, both teams displayed powerful offenses. The Bills began attempting two-point conversions in the third quarter but failed twice, landing at a rare score of 25 points. Baltimore, after a missed extra point, found themselves at a somewhat normal score of 40. In the end, Buffalo managed to win 41-40 by scoring the winning field goal just as time expired.
Cowboys and Packers Tie 40-40 in Week 4
There are various ties still possible in NFL games, perhaps surprising given history. The league implemented sudden death overtime in 1974, resulting in fewer ties thereafter. Recent rule adjustments in 2025 ensured both teams get a fair chance, directly affecting this game between the Cowboys and Packers. A first-possession field goal for Dallas didn’t lead to a win because Green Bay was guaranteed a chance to respond. The game concluded at a 40-40 tie as time ran out.
Texans Beat Jaguars 36-29 in Week 10
The Jaguars were comfortably ahead at 23-10 in the third quarter, attempting to widen their lead with a touchdown but failing. The Texans fought back, scoring to close the gap to an 11-point game. After a series of touchdowns and missed conversions, the Texans unexpectedly returned a fumble for a score, ending the game at 36-29. This score hadn’t occurred before precisely because no extra point was attempted as time was up.
Bills Beat Buccaneers 44-32 in Week 11
The Bills achieved their second Scorigami of the year, scoring over 40 points again. It was an eventful third quarter when the Buccaneers scored, making it 26-21, and tried unsuccessfully for a two-point conversion. The Bills caught up with multiple touchdowns, but that wasn’t the end—after a mix of scores, they pushed the lead to 44-32 in the final moments, securing another unique score.
