Concerns Surround American Institute of Peace’s Actions
On the surface, the American Institute of Peace (USIP) appears to champion its namesake, working towards peace and conflict resolution in global trouble spots. However, a closer examination reveals some unsettling truths about its operations.
According to newly appointed representative Darren Beatty, USIP has advocated for the revival of the opium trade in Taliban-controlled Afghanistan, even employing former Taliban member Mohammad Halimi. This raises serious questions about the agency’s motives and actions, especially during a recent turmoil where evidence seemed to be destroyed amidst government inefficiencies.
Beatty recently discussed these startling revelations during an interview with Glenn Beck, detailing chaotic incidents at USIP. “When Doge infiltrated USIP this past March, chaos ensued,” he recounted. Employees reportedly locked themselves in offices while attempting to fix the building’s infrastructure, with some armed and situations escalating to where security guards were, surprisingly, being protected under dubious circumstances.
Throughout the turmoil, an attempt was made to erase vast amounts of data—key information that might expose the agency’s dealings and funding sources. Beatty highlighted a significant scandal, noting that payments were traced back to Halimi, a questionable figure linked to the Taliban.
It also turned out that USIP’s primary focus appeared to be bemoaning the decline of the opium trade under the Taliban’s regime. “They essentially stated that it’s concerning to see the opium trade diminish with the Taliban’s leadership, and we need to somehow restore it,” Beatty added.
In a report by ProPublica, Halimi was labeled an “exiled Afghan scholar,” with claims that payments from USIP were for legal services rendered. However, Beatty, while not an expert on Halimi, suggested he might be someone who “played all sides.” This contrasts sharply with how USIP reacted during Doge’s interference. If Halimi’s dealings were legitimate and he had nothing to hide, why the desperate attempt to delete crucial data?
Glenn Beck expressed frustration over the situation, linking it to deep state activities that many find troubling. “We expect such behavior from the CIA, but when it becomes evident in the State Department and other departments funding NGOs to instigate government changes, that’s a real issue,” he remarked.
