Sunday, February 18th is the 66th Daytona 500, one of the biggest NASCAR races of the year. But to those watching, it will look like a rerun from Joe Biden’s presidency. Cars circle around, constantly turning left, and there are many people watching, waiting for a collision.
Following the release of Special Counsel Robert Hur’s report on how Biden mishandled classified documents, Americans were horribly reminded of how true this is. The report characterized the president as a “sympathetic and well-meaning older man with a poor memory.” Shortly after, Biden hurriedly held a press conference to refute these accusations.
It was no ordinary press event. It was a glimpse into the great race leading up to the 2024 election. And the president crashed at high speed. Viewers watched as Biden read his first prepared remarks. He confronted the press to dispel his criticism of his mental abilities. Biden was quick to describe Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sissi as “the president of Mexico.”
The Biden campaign insists the president is fit for the job.Now let’s take a look at the tapes, transcriptions and recordings of HUR
Approximately 7,600 miles of mistake. As Maxwell Smart used to say in the spy comedy “Get Smart,” “I missed that much.”
Team Biden responded to the PR disaster by taking their entire media strategy and making pit stops to work on it. This means Biden avoided the friendly Super Bowl interview that Democratic presidents receive before the big game. He stuck to that policy by avoiding reporters during the Feb. 13 event, though he vowed to “come back later to answer questions.”
The campaign went all-in on conflict avoidance strategies by leveraging the Chinese social media app TikTok. The president appeared on the app and gave a short, pre-planned interview with the comment, “By the way, we just joined TikTok.” Ah, yes, TikTok. This time last year, the president banned federal employees from using it on their phones.
No one asks tough questions on TikTok either. So it’s easy to ride.
Journalists ran around in circles reporting on the president’s memory loss. As reported by CNN, “Biden’s allies cannot agree on how to address questions about his age and memory.”
But they certainly tried. At least three different ways.
The first attempt was made after a somewhat honest incident. The New York Times explained that “Eight words and one gaffe sent Biden’s age back to the center of 2024.” The Washington Post similarly thoroughly criticized Biden’s memory loss, saying, “The special counsel’s report paints a scathing picture of Biden’s memory.” And ABC News reported, “Special counsel blows up public debate over Biden’s age and memory: Analysis.”
The Times editorial board condemned Biden, saying, “In other words, his assurances did not work,” adding, “He should do better.”
Afterwards, the media, along with medical experts, rushed to the president’s defense. ABC News quoted a doctor who declared, “Just because President Biden forgets the date doesn’t mean his decision-making or cognitive abilities are impaired. Doctors.” NBC highlighted this point, reporting, “As Mr. Biden’s memory problems gain attention, neurologists are also weighing in.”
Finally, the media warned that there were similarities between the two candidates. AP stayed in its lane. “A slip of the tongue or a sign of trouble? It’s common to confuse names, like Biden and Trump.” NPR quickly followed up with “Is there a double standard when it comes to age between Mr. Trump and Mr. Biden? ?” he continued. Or, as Forbes puts it, “Jon Stewart mocks Biden and Trump as ‘equally challenging’ in Daily Show return.”
Meanwhile, Team Biden remained focused on making left turns to regain lost ground.
During a failed presidential press conference, he publicly criticized Israeli Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu, claiming that Israel’s response to the worst barbaric attack on Jews since the Holocaust had gone “too far.” Subsequent reports showed Mr. Biden calling Prime Minister Netanyahu a “freaking bastard” on at least three separate occasions.
This left turn is aimed at placating liberals who want Biden to abandon a longtime ally and leave Gaza to the terrorist Hamas.
There is also a presidential ban on the export of liquid natural gas. It is aimed at satisfying climate change extremists, even if it means supporting America’s adversaries in Russia. Turn left again.

And of course, Biden had to defend the failed border strategy and its architect, Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, who was impeached by the House of Representatives. As thousands more illegally cross the border, he asserted that “history will not look kindly on this blatant act of unconstitutional partisanship by House Republicans.”

Add to this the failure of Mr. Biden’s Houthi campaign, fearful of a confrontation with Iran, and the president’s frequent shifts to the left, and NASCAR great Jeff Gordon would have been dizzy.

For this reason, Democrats are concerned that Mr. Biden may not even be able to complete the 2024 campaign. Politico, the mouthpiece of the Democratic establishment, warned that “Democrats may need a Plan B. It looks like this:” And presidential candidate Kamala Harris is eager to give up her Veep title. “Harris said she is ready to take office even as questions remain about Biden’s age,” The Hill wrote.

If the race continues and Democrats want to improve their chances of winning in November, they may need someone else in the driver’s seat. Maybe they’ll open the Democratic convention with Carrie Underwood singing “Jesus, Take the Steering Wheel.”
