This week, around 1.2 million visitors are expected in the NYC area for eight World Cup matches at MetLife Stadium. With ticket prices starting at an eye-watering $461, many New Yorkers might find themselves cheering for their teams from the comfort of a bar instead.
The tournament kicks off on June 11th in Mexico City and wraps up on July 19th at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. It includes a whopping 104 matches featuring 48 countries, showcasing the rich diversity of New York.

Australia
For Aussie soccer supporters, check out Old Mates Pub in the Seaport. With high anticipation for group stage matches, particularly against Turkey on June 13th, the U.S. on June 19th, and Paraguay on June 25th, reservations are a must. The pub boasts an extensive range of Australian beers and snacks like the classic Aussie beef pie. “This is our Super Bowl; it’s going to be a big one,” shared one staff member.
Belgium
Waffle lovers will feel right at home at BXL Cafe on 43rd Street in Times Square. “We started with a small 19-inch TV, and now we’ve just installed an 85-inch screen for the World Cup,” said owner Eve Michels. He plans to take his son to the opening match against Belgium in Seattle on June 15th. This cozy cafe has become a sports haven, showing major European league matches alongside pints of La Chouffe.
Brazil
In Long Island City, Beija Flor welcomes fans with Brazilian pride. Owner Lucia Cruz, who has presided over the bar for 14 years, combines traditional dishes like feijoada with empanadas. “Everyone loves Brazil. We’re going to bring a taste of Rio here, fill it with joy,” she noted. Brazil’s first game on June 13th will kick off with a live samba band for three hours before the match against Morocco.
Colombia
In Astoria, S Meat and Hueso invites Colombian fans for all-you-can-eat grilled meat platters with tequila shots flowing in front of numerous TVs. Known for its festive atmosphere, the establishment enhances the viewing experience with special cocktails served in World Cup trophy glasses.

Expect to find dishes like fish and chips and shepherd’s pie being served while matches against Scotland are broadcast. “A true British pub experience with soccer, proper food, and solid beer,” its website states.
