“The View” co-host Joy Behar on Tuesday criticized NBC host Kristen Welker over her “Meet the Press” interview with Rep. Elise Stefanik (R.N.Y.). The country blamed him and the media and said not being strong enough against the Republican Party could mean the end.
“What I hope is that the media covers these people,” Behar said. “I'm watching 'Meet the Press' and that annoying Stefanik woman is on it. She's calling the January 6th insurrectionists hostages. Okay, they're voluntary. I was there for a reason. I wasn't a hostage.”
Behar said Welker did not resist.
“So if we don't stand up to their lies in the media, we're going to lose this issue,” Behar said.

Co-host Sunny Hostin said Welker “dropped the ball” in the interview.
Stefanik said in an interview on “Meet the Press” that he had real concerns about the treatment of the “January 6th hostages.”
Her language was similar to that of former President Trump, who said over the weekend that the “hostages” of January 6 should be released.
“They should release the J6 hostages. They are suffering,” President Trump said. “I call them hostages. Some call them prisoners. I call them hostages. Release the J6 hostages, Joe, release them. Joe, you. That's really easy to do.”

Welker also asked Stefanik about certifying the 2024 election results “regardless of what the results show.”
“Well, I voted not to certify Pennsylvania because, as we have seen in Pennsylvania and other states across the country, the unconstitutional practice of bypassing state legislatures and unilaterally changing election laws Because it was,” Stefanik said.
“The View” hosts have criticized Mr. Welker in the past, particularly after Mr. Welker agreed to an interview with Mr. Trump.
“I wish she hadn't interviewed Trump in her first interview, because I don't think anyone wins a Trump interview. No one seems nice, because it's like, insane. Because it's like interviewing a person. Actually, you're interviewing an insane person. 'Take the microphone off,'” co-host Ana Navarro said.

Co-host Alyssa Farrah Griffin disagreed, saying Welker was one of the “best interviewers.”
Organizers took issue with several news organizations meeting with the former president and hosting him at City Hall.
Hostin accused CNN host Caitlan Collins of being unprepared for a CNN town hall she hosted with Trump last year.
“I don't think she wasn't ready. I don't think he should have been given the platform. I was wondering when the real-time fact-checking was going to happen,” Hostin argued.
