They are crazy about reading.
The Whitney Museum of American Art, in partnership with the New York Public Library, will offer free storytelling on the second Sunday of each month starting March 10th.
program, Storytime with NYPLwill welcome librarians to the Whitney on Gansevoort Street in the Meatpacking District to read books to guests of all ages.
The library’s mascot, a lion named Patience, stopped by the museum Thursday to playfully pose for photos. Portrait of the museum’s founder Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney, painted in 1916 by artist Robert Henry, is on display on the seventh floor.
The Whitney Second program, which offers free admission all day on the second Sunday of each month, was launched in January.
The project is funded by the Art Bridges Foundation, a nonprofit organization that provides financial support to museums.
Since late December, NYPL is no longer open on Sundays due to budget cuts, so the museum is happy to host NYPL.
“This is the perfect partnership. It will ensure New Yorkers continue to have access to great art, culture and books,” said Scott Rothkopf, director of the Whitney.
“New Yorkers are the winners here.”
