Trump Comments on Service Members Killed in Action
President Donald Trump referred to the three U.S. service members who lost their lives in the conflict with Iran as “great people” during an interview with the Daily Mail on Sunday.
According to U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), by 9:30 a.m. ET on Sunday, three service members had died and at least five others were injured. Reports indicated that more casualties could arise during “Operation Epic Fury.” This interview was released shortly before Trump made a brief address on Truth Social.
“These are great people,” Trump commented. “And, unfortunately, we expect such things to happen. It could happen… again.”
He mentioned that the initial attack resulted in the deaths of numerous leaders in the Iranian regime, noting that it was one of the few surprises from the operation so far.
“I think it’s going according to plan,” he said. “There were a lot more than we anticipated, but we eliminated all their leadership. It looks like 48 people.”
In a recorded statement, President Trump honored the fallen soldiers. He expressed his sorrow over the loss of the service members, saying, “As a nation, we mourn the true American patriots who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country while we continue the mission of justice for which they gave their lives.”
“We pray for the injured’s full recovery and extend our immense love and gratitude to the families affected. Unfortunately, there may be more losses before this concludes,” Trump added. “That’s true, but there’s probably more to come, and if that happens, we’ll do everything possible.”
On Saturday, Trump confirmed the death of Iranian Supreme Leader Khamenei shortly after announcing the initiation of Operation Epic Fury. In retaliation, Iran launched hundreds of ballistic missiles and drones at targets across several nations, including Israel and Saudi Arabia.
