Authorities are investigating a group of grave robbers who have allegedly traveled across the country, targeting mausoleums and stealing valuable items, including family heirlooms that were left in graves.
The suspects, hailing from Indianapolis, are currently wanted in Florida, where they’ve reportedly carried out 20 thefts alone. Their criminal activities have extended from Texas to Buffalo, raising concerns nationwide.
“Imagine the heartbreak of losing a spouse and leaving behind wedding rings, only to have thieves come in and take them for a quick profit,” the Orange County Sheriff’s Office stated in a recent announcement. They urged the public to check the burial sites of their loved ones to ensure that cherished possessions remain secure.
Drake Lee Milam, 33, along with his girlfriend Porsche Bancroft, 32, and her mother Angela Garrett, 52, are under investigation and face a warrant for robbery in Florida.
According to the sheriff’s office, the total value of the stolen items in Florida is over $35,000.
“It’s despicable to steal from the dead,” said Corporate Cole Blasey in a video post, expressing outrage over the actions of these individuals. “People often leave behind jewelry that carries sentimental value along with their loved ones’ ashes.”
The Central Florida Bureau of Criminal Investigation has announced a reward of up to $5,000 for information that could lead to an arrest of these suspects.
