Katie Porter Faces Setback in California Governor Race

Katie Porter, a Democratic contender for the California governor position, was seen as a leading candidate to take over from Gavin Newsom. However, a recent interview misstep might have jeopardized her chances.

During the interview, a reporter posed a crucial question: “What would you say to the 40% of California voters who backed Trump, which you need to win?” Porter responded with a laugh, “What do I need to do to win?”

To clarify, the reporter added, “Well, unless you think you can get 60% of the vote. Do you think you can get 60%? You’re saying everyone who didn’t vote for Trump will vote for you.” Porter then noted, “In the general election, yes. I believe Republicans and I can sway those who didn’t vote for Trump.”

When asked how she would approach another Democrat in the race, she said, “That wasn’t my intention,” leaving the reporter confused.

Prompted to elaborate, the reporter questioned, “Why won’t you do that? Are you planning to ask them not to run?” Yet, as the conversation unfolded, Porter repeatedly sidestepped the initial question, deeming the reporter “unnecessarily argumentative.”

Eventually, Porter expressed her frustration, stating, “I don’t want to do this anymore. I’m going to call you.”

The reporter, taken aback, replied, “Aren’t you going to continue this interview?” to which Porter responded, “No, I don’t follow up on every question you ask seven times.”

After the reporter mentioned that other candidates had answered her questions, Porter interrupted again, asserting her position as “the leader” in the discussion.

Stu Bruguiere, co-founder of Blaze Media and host at Blaze TV, appeared astonished as he witnessed the interview unfold. He remarked, “It didn’t go well,” and pointed out that Porter seemed unprepared for direct follow-up questions, suggesting that maybe she hadn’t faced such scrutiny before.

He added, “She was faced with a basic follow-up, and it resulted in her ending the interview. It was just about whether she wanted more voters, and that was the tough question that made her walk away.”
