WASHINGTON – Senator John Thune recently spoke exclusively to Breitbart News. He described President Donald Trump’s successes at the U.S.-Mexico border as both “surprising” and “impressive.”
Thune’s remarks were part of an extensive on-camera interview conducted at the U.S. Capitol. While other segments have already been released, including discussions on Trump’s tax relief efforts and Democratic setbacks regarding his candidate verifications, this segment focuses particularly on Thune’s praise for Trump’s border initiatives.
“You really have to acknowledge it. It’s difficult to describe what he faced before,” Thune stated. “Just look at the numbers—under Biden, we had around 10,000 to 11,000 encounters daily, and now it’s dropped to about 200. The difference that leadership in the White House can make is astonishing. We must prioritize border security.”
He also mentioned that Senate Republicans aim to collaborate with Trump to enhance border security, emphasizing the availability of additional resources. Thune assured that “generational investments in border security” are being worked into Trump’s current legislative agenda.
“We’ll collaborate with him. In the bill we’re developing, we’re committing to significant investments in border security, which the president can leverage to further his objectives,” Thune remarked.
Aside from immigration matters, Thune noted that Congress plans to allocate more resources to boost U.S. energy production.
“This exemplifies how Democrats are constrained by a leftist agenda. If there’s an energy crisis in this country, just look at electricity demands. Data centers and crypto mining are just a few examples. We lack sufficient energy. I advocate for utilizing all American energy sources, including oil, gas, and even nuclear power. While we have renewable energy options, we must embrace all facets of U.S. energy. Allies relying excessively on countries like Russia or China need to develop their resources. We simply aren’t producing enough to support our population or assist other regions globally,” he added.
Additionally, Thune pointed out the Senate GOP’s initiatives to reverse some of Biden’s regulations using the Congressional Review Act (CRA).
“Naturally, the Biden administration heavily relied on regulations to execute their agenda,” Thune explained in his interview. “Much of that agenda was linked to the Green New Deal and a range of climate initiatives, which has imposed a significant burden on our economy. This has, in turn, increased consumer costs. When it comes to regulations, we are keen to reflect on this. Certainly, in the energy sector, this has impacted the daily lives of average Americans. These regulations have piled on extra costs, and people are eager to be liberated from them. We’ve had a lot of success, with numerous regulations being overturned, and we’re working to have the president sign more into law.”
