A source familiar with Tiger Woods shared that he’s feeling “frustrated and depressed about his health” following his recent DUI arrest after a rollover crash in Florida on Friday.
The 50-year-old golfer had just made a comeback at the TGL Finals, marking his return to golf after a long hiatus due to various injuries.
Last October, Woods had lumbar disc replacement surgery and, the previous March, he had surgery for a torn left Achilles tendon.
This source indicated that despite still being a valuable figure in the sport, Woods feels let down by his age and injuries, expressing that “he’s surviving thanks to people making money off of his talent and reputation.” It’s concerning, really.
“He’s got goals, like competing in the Masters, but he needs to get serious about his health. If he commits to that, things might improve. People really like Tiger—he’s a good guy,” the source added.
There are also worries about Woods’ behavior, particularly regarding his relationship with girlfriend Vanessa Trump.
Apparently, “They’re a passionate couple. They’re serious,” according to another source, as they’ve been dating for about a year now.
However, there’s a sense that Woods has yet to truly assess his situation, with one source stating, “He hasn’t looked in the mirror and acknowledged that at 50, he needs to act like it.”
Woods is still grappling with the loss of his father, Earl, who passed away from prostate cancer in 2006, which might be weighing on him more than he lets on.
On March 27, Woods’ Land Rover was involved in a crash that overturned on a two-lane road near his home in Jupiter Island, Florida, leading to his DUI arrest. He was taken into custody but was released later that day.
According to Martin County Sheriff John M. Budensiek, the incident involved Woods’ vehicle colliding with a pressure washer truck towing a trailer, and while there were signs of impairment, authorities stated they don’t believe alcohol was a contributing factor—as evidenced by a breathalyzer test that registered “triple zero.”
After the accident, Woods’ eyes appeared bloodshot in images. This incident follows a serious car crash in February 2021 that almost cost him his right leg, during which he spent three weeks in the hospital undergoing multiple surgeries.
