Governor of Minnesota Compares Trump’s Immigration Policies to Nazi Occupation
In a recent press conference, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz (D) drew a stark comparison between President Trump’s immigration policies and the dark period of Nazi occupation described by Anne Frank. He expressed grave concerns about children hiding in their homes, fearing for their safety. “Many of us grew up reading the stories of Anne Frank,” he remarked, emphasizing the dire situation in the state.
Anne Frank is well-known for her poignant diary detailing her life in hiding during the Nazi regime, ultimately leading to her tragic death in a concentration camp.
Walz firmly reiterated his opposition to Operation Metro Surge, which involves an increase in federal law enforcement presence in Minnesota. He urged the Trump administration to reconsider this approach, maintaining a defiant stance as tensions in Minneapolis rise following the recent police shooting of Alex Preti, a 37-year-old ICU nurse.
Footage from the incident showed multiple officers restraining Preti before they discharged their weapons. This incident has ignited public outcry and heightened feelings of unrest in the community.
In a letter addressing the governor, Attorney General Pam Bondi suggested ways to restore order, but Walz seemed dismissive, mentioning ongoing investigations related to different cases, hinting at the complexity of the situation. “There are still two million documents in the Epstein file and we’re still waiting,” he pointedly stated.
When questioned about the Administration’s request for greater access to state prisons for immigration enforcement, Walz emphasized that their role should focus on immigration processing, not state-level policing.
The recent shooting of Preti follows another controversial incident involving Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents, raising further scrutiny over their practices. Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem confirmed that the investigation into Preti’s death is still active.
Walz concluded with a passionate appeal for unity among Americans, regardless of political beliefs. “This is a tipping point, America,” he stated, stressing the need to hold those accountable who undermine the principles and values of the nation.
