Timothy Busfield Faces Serious Charges

Timothy Busfield, at 68 years old, has had a notable career in Hollywood, known for both his acting and directing. However, he now finds himself in serious legal trouble. Recently, he was taken into custody on multiple charges of child molestation and is currently being held without bail. Despite past controversies, his career never really seemed to face a setback—until now.

Growing up in a family that loved the arts, it seemed almost inevitable that Busfield would make his mark in entertainment. He broke into mainstream success in the early ’80s with films like “Revenge of the Nerds” and its sequel, “Trapper John, MD.” A significant turning point came in 1987 when he played Elliott Weston on the ABC drama series “Thirtysomething.”

He once mentioned in an interview how, back then, dramatic roles were mostly limited to niche genres. However, “Thirtysomething” was different—it tackled themes of family in a special way. Although it wasn’t the first, it. well, did it pretty effectively.

With three Emmy nominations and a win for Outstanding Supporting Actor in 1991, Busfield’s career really started to take off. He starred in various popular films, like “Sneakers” and “Quiz Show.” Yet, things began to shift in 1994 when he faced allegations of sexual assault from a young extra on the set of “Little Big League.”

In a case that unfolded later, he reportedly sued a Minneapolis law firm for defamation, claiming they fabricated the story. Unfortunately for him, the judge dismissed it, requiring him to pay nearly $150,000 to the firm. It seems he also settled the victim’s lawsuit privately.

As time passed, Busfield appeared in notable series, including “The West Wing,” where he played Danny Concannon from 1999 to 2006, and had a recurring role in “Designated Survivor.” He also worked behind the camera, directing episodes of popular shows like “This Is Us” and “Chicago Med.”

In 2012, he faced yet another allegation of misconduct. According to a warrant issued recently, a woman accused him of inappropriate behavior in a movie theater. Busfield defended himself, stating the interaction was consensual, leading the authorities to drop the charges due to lack of evidence.

The latest allegations, however, are much more serious. A talk from the Bernalillo County District Attorney’s Office revealed that another victim’s father reported incidents of abuse involving his daughter several years ago, when she was only 16. Busfield is accused of inappropriate actions and allegedly pleading with the victim’s family not to involve law enforcement.

Currently, the investigation into Busfield is ongoing after a medical professional raised suspicions about possible abuse involving two young twins, who reported that he made inappropriate advances towards them on the set of “Cleaning Women.” Witnesses have claimed a general feeling of unease around him, suggesting he had a troubling reputation among those who worked with him.

At present, he faces multiple charges—including two counts of sexual contact with a minor and one count of child abuse. If convicted, he could face up to 15 years in prison, a staggering consequence for what once seemed like a promising career. His wife, actress Melissa Gilbert, stands by him, though she has chosen to remain silent publicly as the situation develops. Observers are keenly watching how this all unfolds.
