Todd and Julie Chrisley Adjusting to Life After Prison

Todd and Julie Chrisley have faced some tough adjustments after their release from prison, finding life outside more challenging than expected. In a recent episode of their podcast, “Chrisley Confessions 2.0,” Todd shared that some fellow inmates had warned him about the difficulties of transitioning back to reality. He reflected on their discussions, mentioning how, at 52, he realized the complexity of reintegrating into everyday life.

Todd noted, “We all have this general consensus, and it’s kind of weird to say that… Life is rougher than prison life.” He elaborated on the emotional challenges that daily life brings, contrasting them with the physical conditions of prison. For him, while prison was, by all means, frightening, the psychological burden of freedom was overwhelming.

Julie added insight from her experience, recalling advice given to her during her time away from her family. “When I first got there, people told me this: You can’t live there and you can’t live here at the same time. It’s literally driving you crazy,” she said, highlighting the struggle of staying connected to both worlds.

Both Todd and Julie, who are known for their series “Chrisley Knows Best,” found themselves in serious trouble, convicted of federal bank fraud and tax evasion—a charge they still deny. After receiving a pardon from President Donald Trump, they were released from federal prison in May. Now, the couple is working on regaining control over their lives at home.

“You have to go back to controlling everything,” Todd remarked in their candid conversation, emphasizing the responsibility of managing household matters.

Interestingly, Todd has expressed surprise at how well he slept during his prison time, saying, “I didn’t have trouble sleeping, probably because I wasn’t fighting everyone.” He joked about his notoriety as a member of the “Chrisley Clan,” perhaps recognizing the irony in his situation.

Julie reflected on the unique perspective prison brought, which allowed them to focus on self-care rather than family drama. “The more people are away from the kids, the easier it becomes,” she noted, recognizing that while distance doesn’t reduce love, it does create a certain relief.

Despite the challenges, Todd emphasized faith, family, and fitness as central to his resilience during incarceration. He mentioned how keeping in touch with his children and staying connected with Julie through daily emails bolstered his spirit.
