No one knows Bill Belichick better than Tom Brady, and Brady doesn't necessarily buy into the idea of Belichick as a college football coach.
The football world was shocked earlier this week when it was revealed that Belichick, who has no college football experience, had interviewed for the vacant head coaching position at the University of North Carolina.
Brady appeared on Fox's NFL pregame show Sunday with former Patriots Rob Gronkowski and Julian Edelman. He was asked if he could see Belichick as a college coach.
Mr. Brady's response was not redundant.
“No,” Brady replied.
“He's got a lot of things he can do and obviously he's great and even shows his character. But when you go out recruiting and interact with all the college kids, it's…”
Brady's former teammates quickly joined in the former QB's skepticism.
“Can you imagine nonsense like NIL?” Gronkowski asked.
“Can you imagine Bill sitting on a couch recruiting 18-year-olds?” Edelman said.
Brady perfected that idea by running a virtual Belichick recruiting trip.
“Listen, are you sure you want to come here? I mean, we don't want you anyway, but I think you can come. You'll see if you act,” other Fox staffers said, watching the Brady impersonation. I laughed out loud.
Belichick's interest in the University of North Carolina job is reportedly “serious,” but the eight-time Super Bowl champion coach is simply attracting interest from multiple pro and college teams to take advantage of a more lucrative market. Most people believe that they are just trying to create it.
