Tom Brady revealed that the Bears made a strong push to sign the future Hall of Famer during the 2020 offseason.
As history has known, Brady ultimately signed with the Buccaneers and led Tampa Bay to a Super Bowl championship, but on Sunday's Fox broadcast he shared a little more about what went into his 2020 decision.
During the fourth quarter, Brady discussed his “18 criteria'' for teams he planned to sign with after leaving the Patriots.
That list included salary, weather, facilities, and the teammates he would have with his new team.
At the time, Brady explained that the Bears actually made a strong pitch to him in an attempt to scout him to the Windy City.
“Chicago was a team. I've never talked about it before, but they were very secretive in their recruiting,” Brady explained. “We were seriously considering it, but ultimately settled on Tampa because of its proximity to my son Jack, Bruce Arians and the role he played on the offensive side, and ultimately Mike I also love great players like Evans and Chris Godwin and still watch their games.
This new revelation will make Bears fans wonder what would have happened when they were so close to signing one of the Bears' greatest quarterbacks.
Justin Fields never worked out, the Caleb Williams era was just beginning, and the Bears' quarterback position hasn't exactly been smooth sailing since then.
Brady went on to have a lot of success with the Buccaneers, winning a Super Bowl ring with the franchise, leading them to a franchise-record 13-win season in 2021 and winning back-to-back NFC South titles.
Brady was called up for the Buccaneers-Eagles game at Raymond James Stadium, which the Buccaneers won 33-16.
