A South Carolina man died suddenly after placing a large firework on his head on July 4. Video shows the final moments of the man, dressed in an Uncle Sam costume, before dying in the explosion.
Around 10:30 p.m. on Thursday, Allen Ray McGrew was enjoying the Fourth of July celebrations at a block party in his local neighborhood in Somerville, about 35 minutes north of Charleston.
The 41-year-old father had allegedly been drinking that day and was carrying a large firework on his head, and his wife initially thought he was just posing with the fireworks to entertain the crowds.
“He had fireworks on his top hat and we thought he was just showing them off before he put them on the ground. We didn’t realise they were already lit,” McGrew’s wife said. New York Post.
The firework exploded above McGrew’s head and he reportedly died instantly from injuries sustained in the explosion.

“He was a patriot. He was proud of his son and excited for his new bride. He was living his best life last night,” Paige explained.
Recalling the moments before his sudden death, she said, “Just before it happened, he hugged me and our son and said, ‘You are my support and you are my heart. I am his support and my son is his heart.'”
McGrew was described as a caring neighbour who regularly mowed the lawns of around five nearby homes.
A neighbor said of Allen: “He was a very nice guy. Just the kind of guy you’d want as a neighbor.”
Another man was killed in a fireworks accident in Greenback, Tennessee on the Fourth of July.
The man was 35-year-old Matthew Sellers. Reportedly At around 10pm on Thursday, he was holding a lit firework in his hand when it exploded, causing a large wound in his chest.
“Mr. Sellers was observed to have a large hole in his chest and a cut on his right hand. Mr. Sellers was pronounced deceased at 10:30 p.m. and transported by AMR to Blount Memorial Hospital,” a Blount County Sheriff’s Office incident report states.
