Transgender activists have been furious after the US National Park Service (NPS) removed the word “trans” from the Stonewall National Monument website in Greenwich Village.
The NPS' decision to remove word references from the website for the memorial was criticised by Eric Bocker, a council representing Greenwich Village. According to In New York Times.
Botcher described the move as “a latest attempt to erase the very existence of trans people.”
The Stonewall Monument NPS website does not mention the term transgender, but it does refer to lesbian, gay, and bisexual (LGB) individuals.

Transgender activist Randy Wicker is said to be “close” to “two widely seen as a mother of the movement” by important people in the Stonewall uprising. “It was criticised for removing references to transgender people.” ”
