A transgender high school runner won the Washington state girls title on Saturday, beating the runner-up’s record by a full second.
Veronica Garcia, a male runner who identifies as female, Won the race She won in a time of 55.75 seconds, beating the second-place woman’s time of 56.75 seconds, according to Fox News.
The Washington State High School Activities Association’s sports policy allows anyone to participate in any category that corresponds to their “gender identity or the gender they most consistently express.”
Fox News added that the state policy makes no mention of medical requirements or testosterone levels, meaning the policy appears to allow transgender students to choose any category they like without any restrictions.
The race in Washington state is just one in an avalanche of high school girls’ sports titles won by transgender athletes.
Riley Gaines, an advocate with Protect Girls’ Sports, slammed the school over the final outcome, pointing out that similar riots occurred in Oregon over the same weekend.

But some girls are opposed to schools allowing boys to compete as girls. In April, five girls on a West Virginia school’s track and field team refused to compete in protest of being forced to compete with boys. The school district then retaliated against the five girls, banning them from participating in school sports. But a court later ruled that the school Reverse Ban.
