Nobody Wants to Discuss Crime in Chicago: ‘The Rubin Report’ Host
On ‘The Rubin Report’, host Dave Rubin shared his views regarding Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson’s campaign for re-election, offering criticism on how crime is managed in the city. He also touched on Michigan Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed’s remarks about his heritage during a segment on ‘The Will Cain Show.’
A transgender woman is facing serious charges after allegedly fatally stabbing a Chicago man multiple times following a dispute over gender-based insults. This incident, which took place on October 7, resulted in Kelly Day, 32, being charged with first-degree murder after the victim, Larry Young, 50, was attacked near a gas station on the city’s South Side, as confirmed by the Chicago Police Department.
As reported by the Chicago Tribune, the disturbing event occurred in front of Day’s 7-year-old stepson, triggered by comments Young made about Day’s gender identity. During a hearing, prosecutors indicated that surveillance footage captured Day stabbing Young 13 times in various areas, including the head and neck.
An autopsy later confirmed that Young died from multiple sharp force injuries, and that part of the knife blade remained lodged in his skull, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Day contended that she acted in self-defense, reporting to investigators that Young verbally attacked her with slurs, threatened violence, and made a gesture indicating he might be armed.
Prosecutors noted that earlier that day, Day had experienced ridicule for using a women’s restroom at a McDonald’s, which left her feeling frustrated and prompted discussions with her wife about the incident.
The confrontation escalated when Young, who apparently did not know Day, confronted her family on East 87th Street and made derogatory remarks. After attempts by Day’s wife to de-escalate the situation failed, Young pushed Day and walked toward a nearby gas station, leading to further aggression from Day.
After the stabbing, Day allegedly called emergency services, stating she had been injured during an act of self-defense but fled the scene before police arrived.
Prosecutors also mentioned that Day discarded the knife, which later was found missing part of its blade. She claimed in a subsequent call to 911 that she had cut herself while cooking.
Day was apprehended by the Chicago police and the U.S. Marshals Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force shortly after the incident. During a recent detention hearing, the judge ordered her to remain in custody as the case proceeds, emphasizing the seriousness of the alleged crimes. Day is expected back in court on Tuesday.
