Travis Kelce Supports Rashee Rice Ahead of Game

Travis Kelce has come under scrutiny for his pre-game attire in support of his teammate, Rashee Rice, who is currently serving a six-game suspension due to a serious car crash in Texas last year.

Just before Sunday’s game at Arrowhead Stadium, both Kelce and fellow teammate Taykan Thornton were spotted wearing “free 4” t-shirts showcasing various images of Rice.

Mark Lenahan, representing Kathryn Quikendall, expressed his skepticism regarding Rice’s situation. He noted, “Rice is not Nelson Mandela or Pepe Musica. The man fought for their beliefs. There’s evidence that Rice was driving at 119 mph in a $1,749 Lamborghini rental, and had marijuana and a firearm during Easter weekend. It’s not exactly a painful experience for him,” he said in a statement.

Lenahan referenced a popular line from a Taylor Swift engagement post about Kelce, mentioning, “I respect Kelce and Thornton for their support, but it seems like the ‘gym teacher’ ought to have a chat with the history teacher.”

Rice, selected in the second round of the 2023 draft from SMU, accepted his suspension in August after breaching the NFL’s personal conduct policy related to the incident in Dallas.

The 25-year-old wide receiver was driving a Lamborghini Urus at a speed of 119 mph moments before the crash.

He has been placed on a five-year probation and must also serve 30 days in prison.

Rice is set to be eligible to return in week seven when the Chiefs face Las Vegas.

Kansas City is currently feeling the absence of offensive power, especially after their Super Bowl win in February against the Eagles, which concluded with a tight 20-17 score.

This isn’t the only injury concern for the Chiefs; another second-year wide receiver, Xavier, also missed week two after colliding with Kelce in the season opener on September 5th.

Kelce himself had a rough performance on Sunday, contributing to a significant decline in the second half that led to Philadelphia’s victory.

In a reflection on the team’s dynamics, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid discussed the loss on Sports Radio 810, mentioning how much the players care for Rice. He stated, “I can tell you, these guys love Rashee, and it translates into their feelings. I don’t see it as anything more than that.”

This week, the Chiefs are scheduled to play against the Giants, who earned a victory on Sunday night.
