Tributes to Chuck Grassley: Americans Manage Their Own Affairs in the Most Free System Globally

America’s Tribute: A Message from Sen. Chuck Grassley

As part of Breitbart’s America 250 initiative, a special section features original videos contributed by various MPs, Cabinet members, and government figures. The common theme is a love for the country.

In a video for the American Tribute Project, Senator Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) emphasized that America boasts the “freest political system in the world.” He believes that the rights of Americans are granted by God rather than the government.

“People often ask, ‘What can we do to support our government?'” Grassley shared in the exclusive video. “I tell them that you have a choice: either accept being dominated or take an active role in governance.” He urged Americans to choose self-governance by engaging in the political system.

Grassley has served as Iowa’s senior senator and was born in Butler County, Iowa, in September 1933, where he still farms. His upbringing post-Great Depression shaped his principles of conservatism. He began farming corn and soybeans early on and was involved with the International Society of Machinists. For a time, he also taught government courses as an adjunct professor.

First elected to the Iowa State Legislature in 1958, he later moved to the U.S. House of Representatives before joining the Senate in 1980. In January 2025, he took the oath of office again as a member pro tempore of the Senate majority party.

With this role, Grassley will officially rank third in the line for presidential succession.

He reiterated, “Americans don’t derive their rights from the government; they originate from God. This is precisely what the Declaration of Independence conveys.”

Expressing gratitude for the American system, Grassley stated, “We are fortunate to have control over our government, instead of the government controlling us.” He encouraged all Americans to joyously recognize the nation’s 250th anniversary, celebrating the freedom that defines them.
