Three Texas residents are suspected of blowing fentanyl smoke into the face of a 19-day-old baby “to soothe her crying,” police said.
On January 25, Abilene police stopped Robert Lee Mason Jr., Jennifer Trevino, Aracely Daniela Rocha and their newborn baby in front of the Frontier Inn & Suites where they were staying. KVII reported.
Deputies with the Taylor County Sheriff’s Office found fentanyl inside the vehicle, including the baby’s diaper bag, the paper said.
When they searched the suspect’s hotel room, they found so much smoke that they had to wear a breathing mask to enter.
An investigation revealed that the three had been smoking there in front of the children and intentionally sprayed fentanyl smoke in the baby’s face “to soothe her crying over the past few days.” The paper reported.
Mason Jr., Trevino and Rocha were each charged with four counts of second-degree child endangerment, a felony.
Rocha was also charged with possession of fentanyl and possession of amphetamines, KVII reported.
Child Protective Services took the children into custody.
The suspects were each held on bail totaling more than $100,000.
