Escalating Tensions Between the US and Iran
In a tense showdown, President Donald Trump has issued warnings to remnants of the Iranian regime as a joint US-Israel operation targeting Iran continues into its second day.
The Iranian government, having lost many of its top military and political leaders in a recent attack, is still making retaliatory moves in the region. These actions resulted in the deaths of at least three Americans, possibly to strengthen their negotiating position. It’s notable that nine Israelis were also reported as casualties, alongside others in nearby Arab nations.
Trump emphasized the urgency of the situation by stating, “We will hunt you down and kill you.”
The operation, dubbed Epic Fury, commenced with airstrikes aimed at high-ranking Iranian officials, including the commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps and key figures involved in Iran’s military strategy against Israel. This resulted in widespread devastation and numerous fatalities.
Following the confirmed death of dictator Ali Khamenei, throngs of Iranians gathered in Tehran to mourn, while remaining regime supporters promised retribution.
In response to the escalating conflict, Iranian forces launched attacks targeting US and Israeli military assets across multiple countries like Bahrain, Qatar, and the UAE.
Military spokesman Abolfazl Shekarchi warned, “With God’s will, we will teach the United States and Israel an unprecedented lesson,” according to state-run reports.
Amid these developments, President Trump took to social media late Sunday to declare, “Iran just announced they are planning to launch significant attacks today. But I hope they reconsider, because if they initiate anything against us, we will respond with a force unlike anything they’ve seen before.”
Secretary of the Army, Pete Hegseth, further clarified the consequences for those targeting US troops, stating, “We will hunt you down and kill you.”
Moreover, some reports indicate that the initial joint operation led to over 200 casualties, including many civilians, yet Trump’s warnings appeared overlooked.
As the conflict developed, Iranian forces resumed missile and drone strikes at both US and Israeli installations, including a strategic location in Bahrain.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stated that the military would persist in forceful actions against adversaries and described the coordinated attacks as a “declaration of war against Muslims worldwide, especially Shiites.”
On the American side, Central Command confirmed that, as of early Sunday, three US military personnel had been killed and five seriously injured during the ongoing operations. In addition, several others suffered minor injuries but were able to return to duty amid ongoing combat missions.
Following recent airstrikes on Tehran, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that operations would intensify in the coming days, framing these as “difficult days” ahead.
US forces also conducted new attacks in Iran, reportedly ahead of schedule and making significant progress.
