A Ukrainian Immigrant Truck Driver Granted Parole After Fatal Crash

A truck driver from Ukraine, who doesn’t speak English, has been given humanitarian parole to remain in the U.S. by the Department of Homeland Security under President Biden, according to Breitbart News.

On May 6, 2025, Andriy Dmitelko, while driving a semi-truck, ran a red light, leading to a multi-car crash that resulted in the deaths of 53-year-old Woody Earl Beck III, a local high school coach, and 37-year-old Ashley Marie Springer McDonald.

Recently, Dmitelko expressed remorse following his conviction for two counts of manslaughter. The legal proceedings were complicated by difficulties in finding Ukrainian interpreters, causing delays for months, according to Alabama prosecutors.

He is set to serve only two years in an Alabama prison for the tragic deaths of Beck and McDonald, who left behind family members: Beck’s wife, Tiffany, and their four sons, while McDonald’s legacy includes three sons.

Prosecutors indicated that the accident stemmed from Dmitelko being distracted by his cell phone, with evidence from dashcam footage available.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) reported to Breitbart News that Dmitelko is among the many Ukrainians given humanitarian parole by the Biden administration in 2024, prompted by the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia.

In the same year, he also applied for a work visa, which allowed him to drive trucks, despite his limited English skills.

Lauren Biss from DHS commented on the situation, mentioning that Dmitelko’s actions caused irreversible harm. “Now, his reckless driving has resulted in the deaths of two people behind the wheel of a semi-truck,” she said. ICE is urging Alabama authorities to assist in extraditing him after he completes his sentence.
