Trump: 2020 Election Needs to Be 'Erased' if SPLC Is Found Guilty of Fraud

Trump Critiques Southern Poverty Law Center Amid Fraud Allegations

On Friday, President Donald Trump labeled the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) as “one of the greatest political frauds in American history,” urging that the results of the 2020 election be “permanently wiped from the books” if the SPLC is found guilty of fraud.

This week, the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) indicted the SPLC, claiming the organization fabricated hate speech and paid white supremacist groups nearly $3 million to solicit donations.

The indictment reportedly indicates that one informant, hired by the SPLC, played a role in organizing a notable white extremist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, in 2017. This event became a political pawn used by candidate Joe Biden against Trump during the 2020 election.

Trump commented on Truth Social, stating, “The Southern Poverty Law Center has been indicted for fraud in one of the biggest political frauds in American history.” He added, “This is a Democratic hoax, just like ActBlue and many other Democratic hoaxes. If true, the 2020 presidential election should be wiped off the books forever, with no further enforcement or influence!”

ActBlue is recognized as a fundraising platform for the Democratic Party. Regina Wallace-Jones was appointed as CEO following scrutiny from a House committee regarding potential illicit foreign contributions.

According to the indictment, the SPLC allegedly funneled $3 million in donations between 2014 and 2023 to extremist organizations, including the Ku Klux Klan, the American Nazi Party, and others.

SPLC CEO Brian Fair asserted that the organization was being politically targeted for its effective use of paid informants to gather reliable information on violent groups.

However, Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche suggested there were ulterior motives. He described the SPLC as a nonprofit committed to combatting white supremacy and racial hatred. Yet, he claimed the organization actually fabricated the extremism it ostensibly fought against by funding sources that incited racial hatred.

Blanche also noted that the investigation into the SPLC commenced under the Biden administration, although the Justice Department chose not to pursue it.

The indictment included information that individuals in these extremist groups received significant funding to facilitate their activities, including payments from SPLC to Klan members and informants involved in criminal actions.

This included one notable instance where a leader from the Charlottesville rally received over $270,000 over eight years, allegedly funneled through shell organizations by the SPLC.

The protests in Charlottesville were ignited by the removal of a Civil War monument, leading to violent encounters between extremist groups and white supremacists marching with torches, reminiscent of historical Nazi Germany imagery. This became a pivotal moment in Biden’s campaign, which he described as a motivation for his run for the presidency.

The informant, whose identity remains undisclosed, was reportedly compensated by the SPLC for contributing to the rally and allegedly coordinated transportation for its participants.

In October, FBI Director Kash Patel severed ties with the SPLC, criticizing its past assistance as being overtly partisan. He stated, “The Southern Poverty Law Center abandoned the civil rights movement long ago and became a partisan smear machine.”
