Trump ‘a Victim of Judicial Harassment’ by Left’s ‘Weaponization of the Justice System’

Italy’s populist Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini on Thursday reacted to the guilty verdict of former President Donald Trump, saying the 45th president was a “victim of judicial harassment” caused by the “weaponization of the justice system by the left.”

“Solidarity and full support to @realDonaldTrump, a victim of judicial harassment and the political process,” Salvini began his post on X.

“In Italy, the weaponization of the justice system by the left is unfortunately well known, given the long-standing attempts to eliminate political opponents through legal means,” Salvini continued.

“I hope Trump wins, which would ensure greater balance and hope for world peace,” the deputy prime minister concluded in the post.

Mr Salvini shared a picture on Instagram of the 45th president with his fist raised, alongside the words “Forza Trump”, which translates to “Power to Trump” or “Go Trump”.

Salvini was not the only European leader to react to Trump’s guilty verdict on Thursday.

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán agreed, writing to X, “I know President Trump to be a man of honor. As President, he has always put America first, earned respect around the world, and used that respect to build peace.”

“Let the people make their decision in November! Keep fighting, Mr President!” Orban added.

“This verdict is a disgrace. Trump will now win a landslide victory,” Brexit campaign leader Nigel Farage said in a post on X on Thursday.

“I am more certain this morning than I was yesterday that Trump will be the 47th president,” Farage added on Friday.

Trump was convicted of 34 counts of falsifying business records by a Manhattan jury in his hush money trial on Thursday, Breitbart News reported.

That would normally be a misdemeanor, and the statute of limitations has expired, but District Attorney Alvin Bragg prosecuted the case as a felony, declaring that the alleged falsification of business records was done to cover up a federal crime. Trump has never been convicted of such a crime, and prosecutors did not specify what crimes were committed, nor were they required to prove their elements.

Trump is currently scheduled to be sentenced in New York on July 11, just four days before the Republican National Convention (RNC) is scheduled to begin in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on July 15 when delegates are scheduled to vote for Trump as the party’s presidential nominee.
