Trump Administration Aims to Employ ‘The Invisible Coup’ in Birthright Citizenship Case at Supreme Court

During a recent Thursday evening founders roundtable event, investigative journalist Peter Schweitzer, who contributes to Breitbart News, discussed President Trump’s administration and his book, The Invisible Coup: How American Elites and Foreign Powers Exploit Immigration as a Weapon. The book relates to a Supreme Court case regarding the constitutionality of the U.S. birthright citizenship policy.

In Invisible Coup, Schweitzer explains how countries, particularly China, leverage U.S. birthright citizenship to establish a significant presence of their citizens as U.S. passport holders. This policy grants citizenship to children born to foreign nationals within U.S. borders, even if their parents have no other ties to the country.

Following Trump’s executive order to end birthright citizenship, which would align the U.S. with other developed nations, left-leaning groups filed lawsuits against his administration in lower courts. The Supreme Court declared last December that it would review the case, hearing oral arguments in April, with a decision likely coming in the summer, possibly by May or June.

After his meeting with Trump, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Schweitzer learned that the government intends to incorporate findings from his book into its arguments concerning birthright citizenship before the Supreme Court.

“Before the book’s release, we had a productive 55-minute meeting in the Oval Office with key officials. There were a lot of surprises shared,” Schweitzer mentioned, feeling that the President was notably engaged on these topics.

He noted that multiple sources within the White House and Senate indicated that insights from his book about birthright citizenship would be included in the case the administration is presenting at the Supreme Court.

Notably, Invisible Coup reveals a coordinated effort by China to exploit the birthright citizenship system through two methods: birth tourism and relaxed surrogacy laws. In birth tourism, expectant Chinese mothers travel to the U.S. on visas to give birth, thus ensuring automatic American citizenship for their children.

Surrogacy allows Chinese clients to employ American surrogate mothers, enabling them to secure citizenship for their child without setting foot on U.S. soil before the birth.

Schweitzer also spoke with Senators Ron Johnson and Eric Schmidt, who were aware of China’s usage of the system but were surprised by the scale highlighted in his book.

Schweitzer’s The Invisible Coup has topped the New York Times Bestseller list and is available for purchase here.
