Trump Criticizes Netanyahu Amid Peace Proposal Reactions
President Donald Trump reportedly expressed frustration towards Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during a recent phone call. This conversation took place shortly after Hamas responded to Trump’s peace proposal.
Trump, who had initially been optimistic about the situation, was taken aback by what he perceived as Netanyahu’s negativity. Allegedly, he questioned why Netanyahu was “always negative.” According to official sources, Trump exclaimed, “It’s a victory. I’ll take it,” in response to the developments.
On the other hand, Netanyahu interpreted Hamas’s reaction as a clear dismissal of Trump’s proposal. In contrast, Trump praised the response, suggesting it indicated Hamas’s readiness for “lasting peace.”
On Saturday, Trump posted on social media that Israel agreed to a preliminary retreat line, which would involve the release of all hostages if Hamas accepted the offer. Hamas has indicated its willingness to release captives and relinquish power in Gaza but noted that further discussions were necessary within the framework of “Palestine National Consensus and Arab and Islamic Support.”
Negotiators from Hamas are set to meet in Egypt on Monday to work out the finer points of the proposal. According to reports, the plan envisions Hamas maintaining control over Gaza under a leadership framework that includes Trump and former British Prime Minister Tony Blair. Israel would withdraw from specific areas of the Strip in line with its goals, including the release of hostages and the establishment of a new government.
The White House has not yet provided any comments regarding this situation.
