Trump and Biden visits to border beg one question voters should be asking

newYou can now listen to Fox News articles.

“This is like a war. It’s a military operation…America is being overrun by Biden’s immigration crimes. It’s a new form of vicious violation of our country.”

That’s what former President Trump said Thursday, speaking in Eagle Pass, Texas, after visiting border towns, about current President Biden’s response to the cataclysmic crisis at the U.S. southern border.

Most Americans certainly agree with the former president. According to Gallup, only 28% of people approve of Biden’s handling of immigration, and 38% approve of his overall job performance. Note: No sitting president has won reelection with less than his 40% approval rating in the polls.

Seeing these numbers and knowing that his almost certain opponent in the general election was visiting the border on Thursday, Biden’s team hastily announced earlier this week that he would also visit the border. This was my second visit to the border. during his presidential term, even though it is a major national security and humanitarian issue.

The president’s visit comes 378 days after a toxic train derailment that left some residents sick and property values plummeting, and nearly two weeks after Biden finally decided to visit East Palestine, Ohio. In contrast, President Trump visited the area more than a year ago, on February 22, 2023, not long after the accident.

So Mr. Biden went on the offensive, making scripted remarks in Brownsville on Thursday afternoon in which he tried to blame Mr. Trump for the current crisis.

Biden urges Republicans to support Senate bill during overwhelming border visit

“Here’s what I want to say to Mr. Trump: Don’t play politics with this issue, don’t tell your members of Congress to block the bill, join me and I’ll join you. I look forward to urging Congress to pass this bipartisan border security bill.”

But the so-called bipartisan bill that ultimately died in the Senate was about as limp as your average rag. It contained nothing about restarting border wall construction (Biden signed an executive order halting all construction on his first day in office). The bill did not restore President Trump’s successful Remain in Mexico policy, which Biden eliminated by executive order. And we’re not done practicing catch and release either. Without these three fundamentals, nothing truly remarkable at the border will change.

One question voters should ask (among many) is this: As mentioned earlier, Biden visited Brownsville, and there are currently very few illegal crossings occurring (just Six (For example, border officials say people entered the country illegally on Wednesday.) Meanwhile, President Trump headed to Eagle Pass, where more than 2,000 people have been arrested since February 24 alone, according to CBP. It came out. The crisis was so severe that everyone who tried to cross the Rio Grande, including children, died, so Eagle Pass first responders applied for grants to pay for mental health services.

Perhaps another reason for Biden’s sudden urge to visit the border, in addition to not allowing Trump to continue owning the story and the issue, is that Laken Riley, a nursing student at the University of Georgia. It’s for murder. The 22-year-old was killed by a Venezuelan man who entered the country illegally two years ago, even as the Biden administration continued to insist the border was secure. Police said the cause of death was blunt force trauma to his head.

Suspect Jose Ibarra had previously been arrested in New York and released. White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said Biden has not yet commented on the killing or spoken to his family.

Mr. Riley’s death put an innocent face on the real threat of mass illegal immigration, and in the process became bipartisan. This number comes as Gallup found in the aforementioned poll that 55 percent of those surveyed said that “large numbers of illegal immigrants” posed a serious threat to America’s vital interests. is already changing in the minds of American voters. That’s an 8 percentage point increase in the past year alone.

According to the Department of Homeland Security, 169 people on the Biden administration’s watch list during the past two fiscal years were arrested in fiscal year 2023 and 98 in fiscal year 2022. And it was they that the authorities arrested. One can only imagine how many trained and skilled terrorists have entered the United States undetected.

Overall, 28% said they believed immigration was the most important issue facing this country today, according to Gallup, also this week. Government comes in second, followed by the economy, inflation, and poverty/homelessness. These are the biggest issues facing the country on Election Day, and if they all go against Biden, there could be an electoral landslide, at least if Trump is not convicted by November 5th. be.

All told, more than 7.2 million people have been arrested for entering the United States illegally in the past two years. That’s more than the combined population of 35 U.S. states and equals two years’ worth of total births in the country. For context, about 400,000 people were apprehended at the border in the final year of President Trump’s term.

The leader takes the lead. But on Thursday, the current commander-in-chief, Joe Biden, ignored the chaos for three years and followed former President Trump to the border.

And unless Biden can overcome the perception that this is a self-inflicted crisis and an almost impossible sell, he could become the first Democratic president to serve a first term since Jimmy Carter. do not have.
