Trump and Putin meet in Alaska to discuss Ukraine conflict, reporting 'very good progress'

Trump and Putin Meet for Peace Talks in Alaska

President Donald Trump expressed optimism following a summit he labeled as a “10 out of 10,” highlighting what he described as “very good progress” in the quest for peace in Ukraine. However, in an exclusive interview with Hannity, he stated, “no trades until there is a trade.”

“The meeting was very warm,” Trump shared with Fox News, describing Putin as a “strong man” and “tough as hell” but acknowledging the positive atmosphere between the two nations.

The leaders convened in Alaska on Friday afternoon, aiming to peacefully seek an end to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. Speaking aboard Air Force One, Trump mentioned his discussions with Russian officials as efforts to “save many lives.” He later characterized the summit as “very productive,” though he noted that they were “not there yet” in resolving the war.

“We agreed on a lot of points, and most I’ll keep to myself,” Trump commented after the meeting. “There are significant matters still outstanding, but we’ve made some progress. So, we won’t be making exchanges until there’s a deal.”

Russian President Vladimir Putin echoed similar sentiments, suggesting that the summit was held in a “constructive atmosphere of mutual respect.” Trump mentioned that Putin spoke sincerely and, in his view, genuinely wants to reach a resolution.

Looking ahead, Trump indicated that the next steps in the negotiations would involve contacting Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and other NATO leaders. He advised Zelenskyy to “make a deal.”

“I think we’re close to a deal,” he said cautiously. “They’re in a tough situation with significant military action ongoing, but I hesitate to say too much. I usually say if I’m really close, it’s a 50-50 chance.”

Trump emphasized the urgency of resolving the conflict, noting that “if we solve this, we’re going to save a lot of lives,” which he considers a significant priority.
