Trump and Zelensky come together before Graham's funeral.

Meeting Between Trump and Zelensky

On July 28, 2026, President Donald Trump met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in the Oval Office, right before the funeral service for the late Senator Lindsey Graham in Washington, D.C.

Zelensky described their morning discussion as positive, expressing gratitude for U.S. support for Ukraine. One major topic was the potential for Ukraine to receive a license to produce Patriot missiles.

“The President and I discussed licenses for Patriot interceptor production and several other ideas that could help,” Zelensky shared on social media after their meeting.

He added that they talked about the need to revitalize diplomatic efforts, mentioning that their teams would coordinate further discussions. “I am grateful to the United States for its firm support,” he said.

Earlier in July, during a NATO Summit, Trump had confirmed that the U.S. would indeed facilitate a license for Ukraine to produce missile interceptors.

Zelensky remarked on the Patriot missile defense system, calling it “the best in the world today. The best anti-ballistic system.”

During the meeting, Zelensky also extended his condolences for Graham’s passing, recognizing him as a “true friend of Ukraine.” Graham had served over 20 years in the Senate and was influential in foreign policy, recently returning from a trip to Ukraine before his death.

In addition, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu traveled to Washington, D.C. for Graham’s funeral at the National Cathedral and also met with Trump at the White House that same day. Before their discussion, Netanyahu had indicated that Iran would be a key issue on the agenda.
