Trump announces $2.4B in commitments from tech companies like Nvidia and OpenAI; emphasizes the 'super intelligence' label

Trump Announces Major AI Funding from Tech Giants

On Thursday, President Trump revealed a commitment of $2.4 billion in computing power from major technology companies, including Nvidia, OpenAI, and Anthropic, aimed at boosting the AI-driven scientific research efforts of federal agencies. He also reiterated his push to rename artificial intelligence.

The funds will support the Genesis Mission, which aims to enhance federal scientific progress using AI, across 14 different agencies focusing on energy, health, and space, as stated by the Trump administration.

Nvidia’s contribution stands out as the largest, with a donation of $1 billion. Meanwhile, AMD has pledged $500 million, OpenAI is contributing $200 million, and both Anthropic and Google have committed $150 million each.

Trump took to social media to elevate his proposal to redefine AI as “super intelligence.”

He remarked, “The White House considers anyone that uses the term ‘Artificial Intelligence,’ rather than the much more fitting term ‘Super Intelligence,’ as THE ENEMY!” on his platform, Truth Social.

This new terminology seems to be well-received by tech leaders, with Nvidia’s CEO Jensen Huang stating, “With a $1 billion investment, Nvidia is putting advanced Super Intelligence in the hands of America’s scientists to accelerate breakthroughs in medicine, energy, and materials.”

In addition to Nvidia, the Genesis Mission has also secured commitments of $100 million each from AMP and Emerald AI, while AWS, Armada, Crusoe, and Micron are each contributing $50 million, as per a recent press release.

This announcement was part of the White House’s “Science: A New Golden Age” summit. The Genesis Mission was initially announced in November 2025 through the Energy Department.

These pledges accompany Trump’s ongoing efforts to facilitate a broader acceptance of AI, now termed “super intelligence.”

Leading figures in tech, including Anthropic’s Dario Amodei, OpenAI’s Sam Altman, and SpaceXAI founder Elon Musk, have called for international collaboration to manage the development of this emerging technology, especially after warnings that it could pose existential risks.

However, Trump has countered this perspective, suggesting that the real danger lies in allowing China to outpace the U.S. in AI development by slowing progress at home.

Just last week, Trump hosted an AI summit at the White House, where he welcomed influential tech executives from companies like Amazon, OpenAI, and Google, whose collective worth exceeds $1.8 trillion.
