Trump appoints new national intelligence director to take over from Tulsi Gabbard

New Acting Director of National Intelligence Appointed

President Donald Trump has revealed the new appointment for the role of Director of National Intelligence, following Tulsi Gabbard’s recent announcement to step down from the position.

Gabbard, who held the role for about 18 months, cited personal reasons for her departure, particularly her husband’s diagnosis with a rare form of bone cancer.

In her words, “Bill is a great person who recognizes that the intelligence community bureaucracy must be responsive to elected leaders.”

In place of Gabbard, Trump has designated William Pulte as the Acting Secretary of the DNI.

Pulte previously led Pulte Homes, a significant player in the housing sector, before being nominated to head the Federal Housing Finance Agency. Under his leadership, the company reportedly generated billions in revenue.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump stated, “I am appointing William J. Pruitt, Commissioner of the Federal Housing Finance Agency and Chairman of Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac, to be Acting Director of National Intelligence.”

Trump further emphasized Pruitt’s extensive experience managing crucial issues related to market safety, mentioning his oversight of over $10 trillion in transactions at Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, a notable increase from just last year.

Interestingly, Pruitt has utilized FHFA resources to investigate claims of mortgage fraud involving some of Trump’s most vocal adversaries, including New York Attorney General Letitia James and former Congressman Eric Swalwell. This has raised concerns among some Democrats who suggest that Pulte might pursue similar investigations in his new role.

California Congressman Ted Lieu expressed his disapproval, stating on social media, “I firmly oppose the reauthorization of FISA Section 702. Will a completely unqualified and corrupt bill be passed? Trump has already shown he has no problem weaponizing intelligence against Americans he doesn’t like.”

On a more positive note, Vice President JD Vance shared an optimistic perspective about Pulte, commenting, “Bill is a great guy who recognizes that the intelligence community bureaucracy must respond to elected leaders. I’m sure he’ll do just fine!”

Pulte will act as the interim director until he receives Senate confirmation for the permanent position.
