Trump-backed John Lee wins GOP primary in competitive Nevada House race

Former North Las Vegas Mayor John Lee won the Republican primary for Nevada’s 4th Congressional District and will face off against incumbent Democratic Rep. Steven Horsford in November’s general election.

Lee, who is backed by former President Donald Trump, was leading his nearest rival, Air Force veteran David Flippo, when the Associated Press announced the election results.

Trump’s endorsement came less than two weeks before the primary, but it appeared to be enough to give Lee a chance to retake one of the House seats that could be the most competitive for Republicans this year.

Lee served as mayor of North Las Vegas from 2013 to 2022, and also served as a state senator from 2004 to 2012 and a state assemblyman from 1996 to 2002.

Republicans currently hold a slim 218-213 majority in the House of Representatives, but their majority is smaller than it was after the 2022 midterm elections following the resignation and expulsion of several lawmakers.
