Trump Critiques Alaska Democrats Over Senate Race Maneuvers

President Donald Trump has voiced his discontent with Alaska Democrats, alleging they attempted to orchestrate a scheme to find another candidate named Dan Sullivan to enter the Senate race against incumbent Sen. Daniel S. Sullivan (R-AK) and former Rep. Mary Peltola (D-AK).

In a post on Truth Social, Trump labeled this situation as “A FRAUD ON THE AMERICAN PUBLIC.” He referenced a recent report from the New York Times, which indicated that “interviews and text messages, along with documents prepared for a potential lawsuit” uncovered efforts by Peltola’s campaign to recruit a candidate named Dan Sullivan.

According to the report, although Peltola’s campaign has consistently denied any connection to Daniel J. Sullivan’s candidacy, the endeavor to find an additional Dan Sullivan involved lawyers from Peltola’s campaign and senior aides from the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee:

The Peltola campaign has repeatedly denied any involvement in his candidacy. However, the Times found evidence through interviews, text messages, and documents prepared for a potential lawsuit against the campaign, revealing that Peltola’s team collaborated with individuals attempting to persuade Mr. Sullivan to run for Senate. This initiative was broader in scope, aimed at attracting other candidates to dilute incumbent support and facilitate Peltola’s victory.

This operation, humorously termed the ballot composition project, included covert visits to remote Alaskan communities and the arrival of a mysterious operative from the Midwest, who traveled the state under a pseudonym and engaged potential candidates in discussions over drinks at brew pubs.

Additionally, it brought in lawyers from Peltola’s campaign and key strategists from the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, who actively participated in discussions around the effort and even contemplated creating a new political party to siphon conservative votes.

Trump stated, “It has just been determined that the Democrats in Alaska illegally searched for and recruited a man named Dan Sullivan to run against our distinguished Republican Senator, Dan Sullivan, in order to defraud, confuse, and obfuscate the Election, thereby taking votes away from the REAL Senator, Dan Sullivan.” He quoted the New York Times, emphasizing that aides from both the Peltola campaign and the DSCC were engaged in a clandestine plan spanning months to recruit candidates.

Continuing, Trump remarked, “The Democrats’ false statements were made under oath in Federal Court. Therefore, they perjured themselves and should face serious consequences. Mary Peltola should bear the Legal and Political repercussions for her actions, which constitute a FRAUD ON THE AMERICAN PUBLIC, while Dan Sullivan ought to run without facing challenges from either Peltola or FAKE Dan Sullivan.”

In another Truth Social post, Trump stated that after executing such a deceitful plan, Peltola should not be allowed to run, claiming this amounted to ELECTION FRAUD.

“The Democrats cheated! They found a man named Dan Sullivan, put him on the Ballot, then lied to the Court, and said they didn’t know anything about it,” Trump added. “That’s perjury. She shouldn’t be allowed to run, and neither should the FAKE Dan Sullivan!”

Political journalist Mark Halperin shared his belief that the New York Times report would have consequences for the upcoming race. He commented, “Extraordinarily great writing too. Will impact the race, I believe. A lot of people seem to have reacted to being exposed by lying.”
