Trump Warns Putin Amid Missile Tests
President Donald Trump has issued a warning to Russian President Vladimir Putin in light of recent missile tests, emphasizing that the United States has nuclear submarines positioned close to Russia’s coast.
During a press conference on Air Force One, Trump made it clear that the U.S. is not taking the situation lightly. “Russia announced this week that it tested a new missile with a range of more than 8,000 miles. Does that sound like saber rattling to you? What is that?” asked a reporter.
Trump replied, “We know that the world’s largest nuclear submarine is right off their coast. So, we don’t need to travel 8,000 miles. They’re not playing games with us. We’re not playing games with them.”
Things are looking tense between Trump and Putin as the president pushes for a resolution regarding Ukraine.
In his remarks, Trump mentioned, “We test missiles all the time. But, you know, we have submarines, nuclear submarines. We don’t have to go 8,000 miles. And honestly, I don’t think Putin’s comments are appropriate either. We ought to end the war. What was meant to last a week is nearly four years now. That’s what we should focus on instead of missile tests.”
Trump hinted that he might consider additional sanctions against Russia, stating, “We’ll see.” His comments come after Russia’s assertion that it had successfully tested a nuclear-powered cruise missile, named the Burevestnik, which is claimed to have a range exceeding 8,000 miles and the ability to bypass defense systems. Russian officials noted that the missile’s range is approximately 8,700 miles, with a flight duration of about 15 hours during the recent test.
In recent times, Trump has expressed criticism towards Putin for not making sufficient efforts to negotiate a peace deal to resolve the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. Earlier this year, he met with the Russian leader in Alaska, but no agreement was reached.
