Trump Declares Ceasefire with Iran “Over”
President Donald Trump announced that the United States’ ceasefire with Iran has effectively ended following recent military exchanges between the two nations.
During a NATO defense summit, Trump responded to questions from reporters regarding the status of the memorandum of understanding after the U.S. carried out retaliatory strikes against Iran due to missile attacks on merchant vessels in the Strait of Hormuz.
“To me, I think it’s over,” Trump replied, acknowledging the significance of the question.
“I don’t want to deal with them anymore. They’re scum—sick people, led by vicious and violent individuals,” he continued. “If they had a nuclear weapon, they’d use it.”
Trump mentioned he would consult with his negotiating team, including Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff and his son-in-law Jared Kushner, before making any definitive statements about the preliminary agreement aimed at resolving the conflict.
“As far as I’m concerned, it’s over,” he reiterated. “I’ll speak to our negotiators. They want to negotiate; they’re good people—Steve Witkoff, Jared Kushner.”
“As far as I’m concerned, it’s just a waste of time dealing with them,” he said, repeating his negative view of Iran’s leadership. “They’re liars.”
He elaborated that in past negotiations, Iranian leaders would claim, often to the media, that no agreements were in the works, despite ongoing discussions. Pointing to his head, he remarked, “There’s something wrong with them; they’re cuckoo.”
When asked if talks with Iran might resume after the country completes the funeral for the deceased Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Trump didn’t seem optimistic about the prospect of productive discussions.
“I don’t care — they can talk, but I think they’re wasting their time,” he remarked. “They’re a bunch of lying guys.”
Trump expressed frustration that after years of brokered deals in business and politics, negotiating with Iran had proven particularly challenging.
He asserted that the regime’s leaders are “sick,” citing that they have killed 54,000 of their own people amid widespread anti-government protests that erupted late last year.
“They’re bad people. And frankly, I don’t want to waste my time with them,” Trump concluded.
In a related statement, Trump observed that the ceasefire’s status has fundamentally changed, characterizing further negotiations as “a waste of time,” with any future discussions needing to revert to him.
