Lawyers for Donald Trump cited President Biden's pardon of his son Hunter on Monday as part of the latest effort to overturn Trump's Manhattan “hush money” conviction.
Lawyers say Biden's claim that the case against Hunter was “infected” by politics echoes the president-elect's claim that the record falsification charges brought against him by the Manhattan district attorney's office were politically motivated. claimed to have done so.
The lawyers added that failing to overturn the jury's verdict would unconstitutionally block Trump's preparations for a second term.
Trump was convicted in May of 34 counts of falsifying business records related to hush money payments to former porn star Stormy Daniels.
Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg has floated the idea of delaying Trump's sentencing until 2029, and is expected to respond to a filing from Trump's lawyers by December 9.
