President Trump stated that his predecessor, former President Carter, passed away “contentedly” during a press conference in his Oval Office.
Carter died in December 2024, becoming the longest-lived president in US history. The former president from Plains, Georgia, was admired by lawmakers across the political spectrum and received the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002 for his commitment to fostering human rights awareness.
“Jimmy Carter died as a joyful man. Why? Because he wasn’t the worst president; that title goes to Joe Biden,” Trump expressed to the press.
The president’s comments were related to his reciprocal tariffs.
“I believe once this unfolds, you will witness some impressive figures. That’s what is happening,” he added.
Trump remarked earlier that a multitude of nations have sought “trade” with the United States to enhance trade relations.
“Everyone desires to trade now. If they are not inclined to trade, that’s their choice; thus, trade is on them,” Trump mentioned in the Oval Office.
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni visited the White House on Thursday to assist in negotiating trade agreements for the European Union (EU) following a presidential 20% tariff on products from member nations.
The EU is currently paying 10% for US exports while a 90-day halt on Republican taxation is in effect, but the leader expressed optimism about reaching an agreement with Washington shortly.
While US CEOs and economists wonder if national leaders can rapidly scale up to satisfy consumer demand, there are global worries regarding the effects of tariffs on international markets.
Trump asserted modifications were made to shield the United States from being “unjustly treated,” as he alleged occurred the previous year.
“I believe this time it’s even better because we can see the figures we’re analyzing are extraordinary. We’re generating substantial revenue from tariffs,” the president told reporters.
“We are treated quite unfairly, and other nations have genuine leaders, making it challenging for us to adapt to the fact that they can no longer cater to us. We have a president who comprehends what this entails,” he concluded.
